A Tale of Two Mints: Trident Mint Gum Offerings

Trident Mint GumAs I was deliberating in the gum aisle of Rite Aid, a fairly usual occurrence. I was struck by the mint flavor offerings from Trident. Yes, there were the usual suspects of Wintergreen and Spearmint; however, I was more intrigued by Mint Bliss and Minty Sweet Twist. How different could these two possibly be? Let’s find out!

The Mastication Evaluation

Mint Bliss

Trident Mint Gum: Mint Bliss

  • Flavor: 5/5 — minty and delightfully sweet; fills my mouth with a cool freshness
  • Scent: 5/5 — like a soft, cool breeze of fresh mint from the garden
  • Texture: 5/5 — soft and easy to chew; even good for blowing bubbles
  • Taste Time: 3/5 — the flavor lasted about 19 minutes, and then I was ready for a fresh piece
  • Long-Term Usage: 3/5 — the chewability lasted about 5 minutes past the flavor, so 24 minutes
  • Overall: 4.2/5 — fresh and delicious

Minty Sweet Twist

Trident Mint Gum: Minty Sweet Twist

  • Flavor: 4/5 — minty but possibly a little too sweet; nice, cool freshness in my mouth, though
  • Scent: 2/5 — smells a little like a freshly cleaned hospital or other sterile area
  • Texture: 5/5 — soft and easy to chew
  • Taste Time: 2/5 — the initial burst of flavor lasted about 10 minutes, but then I was left with an overwhelming sweet taste, like I need water.
  • Long-Term Usage: 4/5 — I chewed a piece for about 20 minutes before my jaw needed a break
  • Overall: 3.4/5 — fresh but overtly sweet

Piece by Piece

Although it was quite close, I would choose Mint Bliss over its syrupy-sweet counterpart any day. The Mint Bliss flavor was so much more refreshing. Which one do you like best?
