Currently, my go-to gum is the wintergreen flavor of Ice Cubes, a tasty treat from Ice Breakers by Hershey’s. This gum is soft, exceptionally chewable, a delicious minty flavor—but isn’t too minty—that lasts a very long time, and kind to my jaw when I chew for more than 30 minutes.
So, I’ve recently reengaged in the ritual act of dating members of the opposite sex. (Movie quote!) It was time for a second date with a gentleman caller, and burgers, bowling, and beer were on the menu. Even though I don’t eat onions (on my burger or otherwise), those are still some heavy scents to overcome!
The evening was a blast! I won 2 out of 3 bowling games. (What can I say? I’m from Akron, Ohio, where the PBA was founded in 1958, and it’s now headquartered in the city of my residence, Seattle. Bowling is in my blood.) We even had a couple of JELL-O! shots (egads, another scent to battle) and played some darts.
Our conversation flowed in the car ride home, but I frantically searched my purse for my Ice Cubes. Because I don’t want to take the 40-piece tub with me, I keep a small case with six wintergreen Ice Cubes in my handbag at all times. I popped a cube in my mouth discreetly and felt an immediate sense of relief. When our lips met on my front porch, I knew I was in good shape. Minty fresh breath was on my side.
The Mastication Evaluation
- Flavor: 5/5 — minty, fresh, and sweet, but not cloying
- Smell: 5/5 — refreshing
- Texture: 5/5 — soft and easy to munch on, and the wintergreen granules add a nice touch
- Taste Time: 5/5 — the flavor lasts at least 30-40 minutes
- Long-Term Usage: 5/5 — this gum can be chewed for about 45 minutes before needing to be pitched
- Overall: 5/5 — my absolute favorite (right now)
- Pop the top to share some of this deliciousness. 40 pieces to a tub o’ gum for about three bucks. That’s about seven cents per chew. Yes, please!
- Great concept, Hershey’s! Have a tab for sharing, where the gum comes out one piece at a time, which helps me keep my co-workers’ grubby mitts out of my gum. Or, keep it at home and let me pick out a piece when I want.
